THE VANISHING STOCKING TRUCK

Since the DNR decided to change the day that Cooper’s Creek would be stocked and not tell anyone, Mikey and I thought we would out think them. They stated in their stocking schedule email that the stocking day would now be on Mondays. So we decided to go up there on Tuesday and clean up. Well we arrived around 9:30 am only to find out that the DNR did not stock Cooper’s Creek on Monday. We went to our favorite fishing spot on the creek and found only one trout willing to bite a hook. Discouraged we thought we might as well try the other favorite fishing spot on the creek and that was at the “bridge”. After almost repelling down a rocky slope (in my condition), we sat on some rocks not having any success. Now we’re are thinking about going to a different area to catch some trout but it would most certainly be an hour drive to get there. Upon leaving we climbed up the rocky slope, then the stocking truck appeared. I spoke with the driver asking him why were the days changed at Cooper Creek from Fridays to Mondays. He said that it was always a terrible scene as he would come to deliver the trout and be met by hundreds of anglers. Then I asked him why didn’t he stock on Monday. He said he pretty much does what he wants. Alternating Mondays and Tuesdays would keep the anglers numbers down trying to guess when he would come. We were so happy to see him I then asked if he was heading to our first fishing spot. He said yes. I made a comment that I’d be right behind him. Well he must have taken offense by the comment and did not go there after all. It took us about 10 minutes to get to that spot and asked some anglers that were there if they saw the stocking truck. They said no. So Mikey and I decided to continue on Cooper’s Creek rd to find him but we did not. We drove all the way back to the highway stopping vehicles along the way asking if they saw the stocking truck. No one had seen him. We figured he took some unknown road and headed to Deep Hole to stock there. Well we stopped at Cooper’s Creek store and got some ice but we had to decide if we should go to Deep Hole in the chance that there’s where he went or go back at least to the bridge where we definitely saw him stock the trout through the black tube. On the way there we saw the stocking truck coming towards us and knew where he was coming from, our first favorite spot. When we got there it was “trouts galore”. We got our stuff out of my truck and went down to the creek. We finally started catching trout left and right. Just after a short time I got the limit and had to stop fishing. I waited in the truck while Mikey got his share of the trout too. What an adventure we had today following the Vanishing Stocking Truck.
